Message from the President
Meeting Notice
The next meeting of the Hikes Point Business Association
is Tuesday, April 7
at 11:30 a.m. at the McMahan Fire Protection District.
The McMahan Group has generously agreed to sponsor a box
lunch for our meeting. We want to offer a special thanks
to the McMahan Group for not only sponsoring our
meeting, but also for their continued support of the
HPABA. Since this
meeting is a luncheon meeting we need to have
reservations. It is very important that each of you call
to indicate your attendance plans. Please contact me
before March 31st by calling 451-3776 or by
e-mail at talbott.allen@insightbb.com.
Attendance at our last two monthly meetings has been
abysmal and embarrassing. We have had some really fine
speakers and virtually no one in attendance to hear
them. Last month the few members who did attend were
treated to a very outstanding speaker, Carrie Burton,
owner of Productive Learning. Carrie was enthusiastic
and motivational. I really hope to have her back for a
future meeting with a large crowd. Thanks largely to
Board member Brenda Brooks; we try to always have a
program that should benefit business leaders. The HPABA
has something to offer area businesses. Our major reason
for existence is to promote the Hikes Point area as a
thriving business community and to facilitate the growth
of our business community. We need your support and
active involvement.
The Board, as I previously noted, is offering $10.00
Kroger Gift Cards as an incentive for bringing in new
members. Each member business representative who brings
in a paying new business member will receive a $10.00
Kroger Gift Card. We now have another incentive program.
In order to boost attendance at monthly meetings we have
received a donation of $150.00 from Emil and Mary Helen
Peter. As a result of this very generous gesture by the
Peters, the HPABA will hold a drawing for $50.00 cash at
the next three regular meetings during which we have at
least twenty members in attendance. So each of you has a
chance to win cash just by showing up.
The next big event on our schedule is the Hikes Point
Showcase and Health Fair. The HPABA reintroduced this
event last year after a brief hiatus. It was very
successful and we hope to build on that success to
provide an even better showcase this year. The showcase
is set for Saturday May 9th at the McMahan
Shopping Center (Kroger lot) and will run from 9:00 a.m.
until 3:00 p.m. This is a real opportunity for our
businesses and our association to get some recognition.
Once again we will be seeking sponsors and each member
business will have the opportunity to have a booth. We
plan to have door prizes, live entertainment, fire truck
rides, food and drink, and a health fair. The Showcase
and Health Fair is one of the biggest events sponsored
by the association during the year. We really need
everyone to get behind this event. Please consider
providing a sponsorship, door prize, and/or a business
booth. More information will be forthcoming shortly. I
kept this paragraph from my last letter as a reminder.
As of this writing we are still waiting final approval
of our funding requests from Metro government in order
to proceed with further planning for this event.
Spring has finally sprung and once again it is time to
spruce up the landscaping around the clock. We need to
clean up and plant new flowers in the area. If anyone
one could volunteer some time to help with this project,
please contact me. I will schedule a date time for this
work around work schedules of the volunteers.
The McMahan Group would also like to offer ad space on
the reader board for area businesses. Contact the
McMahan Group for information.
Remember that our community grows better and our
business association grows stronger one person at a
time. Make a difference!
Talbott Allen
